Tasting Notes: An overwhelming rainbow of fruit aromas, starting with dark cherry leading to green apple, then stewed peaches and then to orange marmalade. A true cornucopia of fruit on the nose. Then there are tertiary notes of cracked black pepper, asian spices, and clove. The entry is salted caramel, layered with all sorts of peppery notes followed by a rich sweet dark chocolate and a gently Kentucky hug.
Elon's Notes: We’ve selected dozens of Knob Creek barrels over the years and tasted hundreds more. In the old program, samples were evaluated at barrel strength but bottled at 120 proof. More often than not, those samples were even higher—sometimes reaching 125–127 proof.
That’s why this new pick was so exciting: it would be bottled uncut, exactly as we tasted it straight from the barrel—a pure expression of its aging process. Once again, it was a delight to taste on-site at the historic Jim Beam Distillery, a place steeped in the heritage of both the region and the whiskey itself.
To our surprise, the barrel we selected came in under 120 proof. Aged on the third floor, it likely underwent a gentler maturation with less evaporation, resulting in lower alcohol content. The flavors remain true to Knob Creek, but what sets this barrel apart is its balance—the absence of harsh bitterness or heat on the finish makes it truly special.

About this barrel: This barrel was selected by Josh Schrader during a snowstorm back in February. At Angel's Envy they let their small batch whisky age in a range of different Port Wine barrels, both Tawny and Ruby, from different producers. Josh selected a delicious Ruby Port cask and then had a private proofing session where he settled on an elegant 105 proof dram.

Elon’s Tasting Notes: Decadent, dark and rich. This is a cigar smokers delight. Dark fruits like stewed cherries and blackberry pie are joined by spicy notes of maduro tobacco, allspice and clove. Orange marmalade is present in the background. The texture is silky and envelopes the whole palate.

About this barrel: This exclusive Midway Liquors Larceny Barrel Proof was hand-selected by me and some lifelong friends in August 2024, choosing a standout barrel from the historic Deatsville rickhouses. Deatsville has long been home to Old Fitzgerald wheated bourbon, dating back to its days at Stitzel-Weller, and continues to age some of the finest barrels for Heaven Hill today. While decanter bottles of Old Fitzgerald are only bottled in small batches at 100 proof, this single barrel selection offers a rare chance to experience its wheated bourbon recipe at full barrel strength. - Elon Bliden

About Larceny: Larceny Bourbon, crafted by Heaven Hill, continues the wheated bourbon tradition originally perfected by Stitzel-Weller, the distillery behind Old Fitzgerald and Pappy Van Winkle. When Stitzel-Weller closed in 1992, the Old Fitzgerald brand and its historic wheated bourbon recipe were later acquired by Heaven Hill in 1999, ensuring its legacy lived on. Using a 68% corn, 20% wheat, 12% malted barley mashbill, Larceny delivers a smoother, sweeter profile compared to rye-based bourbons, with notes of caramel, baked goods, and honey. Its name pays homage to John E.
